ARTIST PROFILE – Lynn Lochrie

Lynn Lochrie

My love of Basketry has evolved out of my life long interest in nature and permaculture, and although I tend to focus on using Native plant material from my garden, or recycled materials, I enjoy experimenting with anything that can be bent or twisted.

I have been a member of Basketmakers of Victoria since early 2011, and from 2015 spent a few years coordinating the Basketry Group of the Friends of the Royal Botanical Gardens Cranbourne. I have been with the Great Alpine Gallery Basketmakers since it’s inception in 2015 and Swifts Creek is now home after 50 years visiting the area.

Plaited hats, Twined Melon Baskets, Random Weave Baskets and Earrings are just some of the things I enjoy creating, from favourite plant materials such as Cumbungi, Dianella, Lomandra, Eliocharis and Kangaroo Paw. Recycling bailing twine, teabag paper, children’s drawings and copper wire, are some non-plant materials I like to ‘play’ with.
