ABOUT US

The Great Alpine Gallery is an artist-run gallery located in the picturesque village of Swifts Creek in the beautiful Tambo Valley, far south-eastern Australia.

It is located on the Great Alpine Road, one of Australia’s iconic touring routes winding its way through gorges, forests, rolling farmland and over the Victorian Alps. The area is home to many artists and makers who draw inspiration from the stunning local environment.

The Gallery was established in 1998 by local artists as a cultural focal point and outlet for selling their works. It has become the creative hub for the Tambo Valley, not only featuring quality works and exhibitions, but presenting workshops, openings and multi-arts projects for the wider community. It provides a supportive environment for artists at every stage of their creative journey, and creative projects for everyone to take part in.

Run entirely by volunteers, the gallery is supported by memberships, donations, sales and grants for specific projects. Entry to the gallery is free, and everyone is welcome.

Gift shop

The Gallery includes a fantastic gift shop with a great variety of artwork available for purchase, from gift cards, paintings, photography, and needlework to woodwork, leather work, and unique pieces made with local natural and found man-made materials. All the work in the Gallery shop is made by local artists and is priced at competitive prices. You can view some samples of the work of various artists on their individual pages on this site.  Gift Certificates are also available for purchase in the Gallery or contact us to arrange purchase and delivery.

Committee

As a not-for-profit incorporated association, the Gallery is run by a volunteer committee. The AGM is held in December each year and new committee members are very welcome.
