The Great Alpine Gallery features a range of exhibitions throughout the year.

You may find a themed exhibition featuring work by local artists and community members, or an exhibition from a particular artist. The Gallery also supports travelling exhibitions and region-wide events.

Our artists are the lifeblood of the Great Alpine Gallery. The Gallery features the work of multiple artists working across a huge range of media. Many of our artists are also the volunteers you'll find working in the gallery.

Poets Walk

Poets Walk

Swifts Creek resident John Butler was a sculptor and poet who wrote “A River’s Mark” after the 2008 floods. He had a vision of creating the Poet’s Walk consisting of a walking track with six rock cairns with each cairn displaying a verse of his poem.

The Great Alpine Basketry Group has been up and running since 2016. It is a dynamic, welcoming group that meets monthly and loves to learn new techniques and be involved in whatever is going on in the community. Recently, some of the group worked on creating lizard eggs as protypes for The Great Alpine Gallery event- 5th July "Dance of the Water Dragon", part of the amazing East Gippsland Winter Festival. Free lantern making workshops in Swifts Creek! One at the Community Centre on Wed 19 June with a sneak peek at the giant water dragon lantern, and one at the "Dance of the Water Dragon" fabulous family event at the Poets Walk on Friday 5 July making woven basketry dragon egg lanterns to accompany the water dragon in the parade! Thanks to the support of VicHealth for these free workshops 🙂

Dance of the Water Dragon update. Tracey and Sally have been busy over the last few days building a lantern sculpture. It is a giant East Gippsland Water Dragon made out of cane and bamboo and is part of the galleries' event for the East Gippsland Winter Festival https://egwinterfest.com.au/ Here is a snippet of how it evolved. If you would like to see it tomorrow, they will be working on it at the Swifts Creek Community Centre, 6879 Great Alpine Rd, Swifts Creek from 10.30am until 3pm and would love some company.
